Mrs. Nina Malis is the school secretary. She says, "Working in a school is perfect for me." She enjoys being around children and learning.
Mrs. Malis grew up in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. She went to Wright College in Chicago. History was her favorite subject. Before she was the school secretary, she was an ESL aide and wanted to be "part of the school in a different way." Her favorite part of being a secretary is that it provides her a chance to help many people - teachers, students, and parents.
Her favorite teacher was Mr. Vickers, the 6th grade teacher. He "made learning fun." Her least favorite was Miss Barbantini, the 8th grade teacher. She "was very strict and never was in a happy mood." Her favorite memory is summer vacations at the lake in Michigan with her family.
Mrs. Malis' favorite sport is volleyball. It was "a game that the neighborhood children participated in." She also played on the high school team. She also enjoys watching volleyball, football, and swimming. Her dream meal is tons of Chinese cooking, which she "relishes." Some of her hobbies are reading, embroidery, and gardening. When reading, Mrs. Malis likes to read mystery books and historical novels. Her favorite things to garden are roses. When embroidering, she does Christmas stockings and costumes.
If she couldn't work in a school, Mrs. Malis would be either at the Botanical Gardens in Chicago or a landscaper.
