Mr. Walther

Mr. Mark Walther was born in Waukegan and grew up in Arlington Heights. He went to Greenbrier Elementary School for kindergarten through fifth grade, Rand Junior High, and Buffalo Grove High School. Mr.Walther's favorite teacher was Mrs.Nowack -- his second grade teacher. Mr.Walther was interested in many occupations before he decided upon being a principal. He wanted to be a doctor, a professional athlete, a principal, or a teacher. It was in college that he knew he wanted to be a principal because of his desire to work with parents, children, teachers, and the community. He also wanted to make a uniquely personalized school. Mr.Walther went to Eastern Illinois University and succeeded in getting his BS and MS in education.
Mr.Walther loves to teach math because if the solution isn't easily apparent it is fun to work it out and solve it. To Mr.Walther the most challenging thing about teaching would be having a balance between his personal and professional life. Mr.Walther's favorite memories are when students come back to Hoffman School after they have grown up and share their success.
Mr.Walther's hobbies are running early in the morning, reading, coaching his sons' soccer teams, and being a Cub Scout Leader. He also enjoys attending college or professional football and basketball games. Mr.Walther loves sports. Mr.Walther's ideal meal would be lobster tail and prime rib with a baked potato and a tossed salad in a cozy room, by a fireplace, with his family. His father coached football, wrestling, track, and baseball, while his mother was a home economics teacher. He loves Hoffman School!
