Mrs. Hamel was born on August 16 in McPherson, Kansas. She has three sisters, Glennie, Nancy, and Diane, plus two brothers, David and Rick. She broke her leg when falling off a haystack, and another time got a black eye when a boy threw a green plum at her. She was throwing them too!
She grew up in Virginia and went to Our Lady of Nazareth for elementary school. She admired the teachers there because they were caring and accepting. Since her teachers were such an inspiration to her, she has always wanted to teach.
She went to Roanoke High School, and went to Loyola University. She has been teaching English and reading for 25 years.
She and her husband now live in Glenview. They have a daughter named Emily, and two sons named Peter and John. Her favorite books are the Golden Compass series. Her favorite hobbies are to swim laps, paint, and cook. Her favorite color is whatever is on her paintbrush, her favorite animal is a fish, and her favorite movie is the Wizard of Oz. She has been to Italy two times, and to England once.
She is excited to teach at Hoffman because everyone is so friendly and inviting, and we’re glad she’s here!
