Children’s Author Candace Fleming to Visit Hoffman School

Hoffman School welcomes children’s author Candace Fleming on Monday, May 16. Candace has a great love of history and received her degree in history from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. At that time, she was a new writer producing nonfiction articles for Highlights and Cricket Magazine when she was "discovered." Her first book published in 1996 and is entitled Women of the Lights. It was illustrated by James Watling and it was selected as one of the entries for Adventuring with Books: A Booklist for Pre-K--Grade 6, 12th Edition, 1999 published by the National Council of Teachers of English.

Candace Fleming is an author who specializes in both young children's books and fun, historical books for kids. Her book Ben Franklin's Almanac presents this famous American in a new way, with his story told in a scrapbook/almanac format. One of her most popular picture books, Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!, celebrates gardens and the fun of rhyming. Both of these books were recognized by the American Library Association and appeared on the Notable Books list.

Information about purchasing autographed copies of Mrs. Fleming’s books will be sent home with students in early May.
